The story of four friends, Rat, Mole, Badger, and Mr. Toad, living their lives and adventures on the banks of the river.

This book was super cute. I loved Mole the best. He was just so genuine and earnest and new to everything. I was so sad when he got depressed because he smelled his old home and Rat didn't want to stop. I definitely got annoyed during the Mr. Toad chapters. I really didn't like him (even though his is my second favorite ride at Disneyland)! He was just so conceited and a jackass. And I really thought he belonged in jail. He stole someone's car! So a little less Toad would have been nice. All I really need are cute stories about Mole.

I adored this book when I read it last year. There is an annotated version that just came out that I'm soooo tempted to buy! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah, it was super cute. But I guess the version I had cut out two of the chapters! They said at the end they weren't really relevent to the story so they were cut. Weird. So I guess I haven't read it all yet.

...They cut The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, didn't they. Man, you have to read the unabridged version if that's one of the chapters that got cut. It is lyrical and beautiful and awesome (and okay, was probably many children's Intro to Paganism).

Mole has always been my favorite too. There is a terribly good stop-motion animation series based on the book that was made by Cosgrove Hall in the '80s that is well-worth checking out if you liked the book. Most of it is available on dvd, I believe.
