I want to say that Flanders during this time was a part of France...but maybe it was actually a part of the Netherlands. I don't know. Wikipedia has failed me. My world is crashing down around me.
Ooh, I hope you enjoy the Niccolo series! I read them all in a big rush soon after college. Don't know if I'll reread them, but they definitely had a very profound effect! HARD to read, though!

Aarti, I am really enjoying the first one so far, but you're right they are hard to read. That is a LOT of complex writing.
